WHO ARE WE?
The Virtual Institute for Capacity Building in Higher Education (VICBHE) is a collaborative initiative between the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), officially launched on June 1, 2021, by Professor Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary of NUC.
VICBHE serves as a unique platform dedicated to enhancing the skills of higher education personnel in modern approaches to planning and quality assurance in teaching, learning, and research, particularly in the post-pandemic era.Vision: To be the best we can be through capacity building.
Mission: To serve as a platform for conducting short courses on contemporary issues in higher education.
Objectives:
- Provide short courses on quality assurance for NUC staff and personnel from Nigerian universities, as approved by the Executive Secretary.
- Enhance the capacity of NUC staff through training, ensuring effective delivery of the Commission’s quality assurance mandate.
- Leverage virtual learning methodologies to deliver capacity-building programs without significantly disrupting regular workflows.
- Meet the quality assurance objectives outlined in the 2019-2023 Blueprint through a cost-effective training model.
- Serve as an observatory for assessing training needs in quality assurance for NUC staff and the Nigerian university system.
Under the auspices of the NUC Strategy Advisory Committee (STRADVCOM), VICBHE continues to play a pivotal role in advancing higher education standards in Nigeria. The institute's leadership includes Professor Emeritus Peter Akinsola Okebukola, OFR, serving as the Executive Head, with a team of esteemed facilitators from Nigeria and other African countries.
By embracing virtual learning methodologies, VICBHE ensures that capacity-building initiatives are both accessible and effective, contributing significantly to the continuous improvement of higher education in Nigeria.
